Hey!

I featured your drawing over at :iconthorin-oakenshieldfc: and here is what I wrote about it:

[I left out the part I wrote about Thorin as a character and I'll cut to what I wrote on your drawing instead ;-) ]

"Now I've made another bridge (thought that would never happen ) to our weekly deviation:

This is one of the many portraits of movie-Thorin that you can find here on DA. What makes it special is that it isn't a redraw of the official poster. (Not that these aren't good, it just makes this one stand out and catch at least my eye :) )

I'm not quite sure if this is done in pencil or some other medium, but I think it was executed superb. The first thing I noticed is the fur: especially while looking at the thumb I couldn't believe how good it is. I seems so real. (My fur mostly looks like a wet rotten electrocuted rug...)

Now this picture is hold together by two things: the fur and the hair. Both frame Thorin's face and lead the eye to the face. Most moments taken out of a movie won't look that good after being made into a painting, so I'd like to congratulate the artist on her choise of subject. I also like how he is a bit more on the right side of the painting while his eyes look at something on the left. That way, it looks very well balanced.

The hair in itself is also very good: Most of the time, Thorin's hair ends up being a rather knotted mess. I tried to avoid that by (acidentally) giving him that "wet-hair" look he actually doesn't have. But :iconscary-scenes: managed to draw his hair extremely well. It doesn't look like all over the place pencil-lines or overcooked spagetti but it looks rather smooth and real, much like the fur.

The eyes are spot on, I can't find anything wrong with them. I especially like how the artist managed to catch that slightly troubled look on is his face. The only thing that seems a bit of to me is the width of the face: It is really just a very small thing, but his face seems to be a bit do wide, especially at the temples.

So over all I think this is a fantastic well executed drawing I enjoyed very much and I hope that more people will come to see and like it as much as I do :)

Congratulations on the good work!

Love,
Grishhak"
